Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 egg, beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Bang Bang Sauce:
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (optional, for extra spice)
1 tablespoon honey
Instructions
Prepare the Shrimp:
Start by patting the shrimp dry with paper towels. This helps the coating stick better.
In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
In another shallow bowl, beat the egg.
Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
Coat the Shrimp:
Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, then into the beaten egg, and finally into the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to ensure they are well coated.
Fry the Shrimp:
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
Once the oil is hot (about 350°F or 175°C), carefully add the shrimp in batches, ensuring they’re not overcrowded. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden and crispy.
Remove shrimp from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Make the Bang Bang Sauce:
In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha (if using), and honey until smooth and creamy.
Toss the Shrimp in Sauce:
Place the fried shrimp in a large bowl. Drizzle the sauce over the shrimp and toss gently until they are evenly coated.
Serve:
Serve immediately, garnished with chopped green onions or cilantro, if desired. Enjoy your homemade Bang Bang Shrimp with a side of rice or salad!
Notes
Adjust the spice level: For more heat, increase the amount of sriracha in the sauce.
For extra crispiness, double-dip the shrimp in the egg and panko breadcrumbs for an even thicker coating.
Storage: Leftover shrimp can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven to maintain the crispy texture.
